Sep 12: LG says its TVs aren't spying on your family — but it didn't explain what it collects or who gets it

LG put out a statement pushing back after Gamers Nexus, Level1Techs and independent security researchers showed its smart TVs logging and uploading data about the people watching them. LG says its TVs "do not continuously record or transmit users' conversations" and that features like ACR (the tech that recognizes what's on screen) and interest-based ads are "not enabled by default." The Verge points out that "continuously" is doing a lot of work: Gamers Nexus showed an LG TV keeping long logs of room conversations well after the assistant should have stopped listening. LG also didn't say how much data it collects or who it shares it with. The response is being picked up across outlets, and LG's denial was trending on Hacker News this week.
