Aug 11: Apple just locked your home camera features behind a 2TB iCloud plan

Apple confirmed that three new Home app camera features in iOS 27 — generated video descriptions for HomeKit Secure Video cameras, searching your camera clips, and automatically surfacing noteworthy clips — require an iCloud+ plan with at least 2TB of storage. Users on smaller plans get nothing. The number of cameras you're allowed to use it on scales with how much you pay: one user with 8TB was eligible for video summaries on up to 15 cameras, and the maximum 12TB plan may go higher. Apple's stated reason is that the features run on "powerful server models" that are expensive to run — meaning your family's camera footage is being processed on Apple's computers, not yours.
