Meta will start feeding what you do on other websites into your AI chatbot replies next month
On Tuesday, June 9, Meta announced it will expand how it uses the activity data that businesses already share with it through tracking pixels, using it to personalize not just ads, but Instagram and Facebook feeds AND the answers Meta AI gives you. The change rolls out across the US in July, the only opt-out is a buried toggle Meta is renaming as it discontinues the old "Your activity off Meta technologies" setting, and 36 privacy and consumer protection groups have already asked the FTC to investigate, calling it "surveillance-driven and behavior-changing marketing." Parents are flagging the AI chatbot angle in particular because kids are starting to use Meta AI for homework help.
